Free Summer Activities

Let’s be honest – life isn’t cheap! If you’re looking for some fun things to do this summer without breaking the bank, then we’ve got you covered! Check out our top eight recommendations for how to spend your summer days (and nights) without spending a dime:

1. Go on a hike

Grab your baseball cap and sneakers and get moving this summer! Whether you choose to go alone or with friends, hiking is a great way to get in touch with nature while also taking care of your body. We constantly see photos of celebrities hiking the hills of LA, but you don’t need to live near a mountain to enjoy a hike – you can literally go for a walk in your local park and achieve the same result!

2. Explore your city’s street art

If art galleries aren’t your thing, take to the streets to discover some amazing artwork that is specifically designed for public spaces. Immerse yourself in local culture and stimulate your senses by exploring your city. Side note: this is a great photo opportunity and your Instagram will definitely thank you for it!

3. Check out a free farmer’s market

Most major cities have at least one farmer’s market that offers free entrance. Even if you don’t plan on making a purchase, browsing through your city’s farmer’s market can be quite interesting. From testing various food samples to meeting new people, this will be an experience to remember!

4. Have an outdoor picnic

Okay, we know what you’re thinking – in order to buy food for a picnic, you need to spend money. That might be true, but you technically don’t have to look anywhere further than inside your own fridge. Combine miscellaneous ingredients that you’ve already purchased to create a diverse spread of food. Then set it up outside and enjoy with your loved ones.

5. Board game night

Disney Trivial Pursuit, anyone? Call up your oldest friends and reminisce about childhood memories while playing classic board games that you know and love. Once you start, you won’t want to stop!

6. Pick flowers

Flowers are a quintessential element of summer décor; however, buying them at a flower shop can be costly. Instead, search your neighbourhood for beautiful flowers and create a custom arrangement. You’d be surprised at how nicely these turn out with a little patience and a lot of creativity!

7. Star gaze

Stargazing is for everybody – whether you like to see yourself as part of a bigger picture or you just like to be outside at night. Park yourself in a wide, open space and relish in the beauty that is above you.

8. Have a water balloon fight

We just HAD to include this one. Relive your childhood and let loose with a classic water balloon fight. This is the perfect way to have some fun while (literally) staying cool.
